When you book a hotel, the first price you are offered is not necessarily the best price you can get. Rather than simply pay the sticker price, you can save more money to spend on other aspects of your vacation by looking for discounts, deals, coupons, etc. While it might be a little bit of a hassle to research hotel deals up front, you can make paying for your vacation much easier by looking for deals.

Ask about the Price for Different Rooms

Some rooms in a hotel are harder to fill than others. For example, if a hotel has a swimming pool, some guests might request to be close to the pool. Other guests might prefer a nice view. These prime rooms should fill up first. To entice guests to take one of the less desirable rooms, hotels will sometimes offer a lower price. Ask a hotel you are considering if you can get a lower rate if you take a room that overlooks the parking lot, lies at some distance from hotel amenities, etc.

Ask about Rewards Programs

If you plan an traveling to the same vacation spot multiple times, you might consider joining a rewards program for a specific hotel. If you plan on traveling to many different place, you should consider joining a rewards program for a hotel chain. These rewards programs will vary. Some will offer you a discount on every stay at a participating hotel. Others will offer discounts only after so many stays. Either way, they are good ideas for people who travel frequently.

Consider the Location of the Hotel

Just as some rooms are more desirable than others, so too some locations are more desirable than others. For example, hotels that are closer to a beach or a shopping district tend to be pricier than hotels that lie off the beaten path. The reason for this is that most people would rather be as close to a desirable location than have to take a cab to get to where they want to go. Thus, if you are willing to make a small trek to vacation destinations, you can save money on your lodging.

While the choice of a hotel is important, you don't want to devote an inordinate amount of your budget to your hotel. Instead, you should try to find ways to save money on your hotel so that you have money available for other components of your vacation. Talk to people like The Breakers Hotel for more information.
