If you are traveling this summer, part of the fun of your adventure might be in shopping for things that will remind you of your trip. Here are some things to consider as you make your plans.
Make A List - Will you be bringing gifts back to friends and family members? If so, consider making a list or those you want to remember. In addition, it's a good idea to purchase a few extras, just in case you forgot somebody. They can always be used as gifts later, of course. Don't forget to bring something to those who are helping you while you are gone. A pet sitter, the person watering your plants, and anybody else on the list will love being remembered.
Consider Decor - When shopping for yourself, consider buying things for your home. Seeing them every day will surely remind you of your travels.
- One idea is to buy a print or painting of the places you visit. For example, a wall with framed depictions of Buckingham Palace, the Trevi Fountain, the Eiffel Tower and other famous monuments hanging together will not only bring back memories, but it will add a gorgeous look to your decor.
- Consider selecting miniature decoratives in the different places you go. A tiny bear from a national park, a thimble from a museum, or a tiny soldier from a battleground will all be nicely displayed on a shelf or in a china cabinet.
- Another thought is to buy one more-expensive piece rather than many small ones. For example, if you visit Venice, consider getting a real Venetian mask rather than a reproduction.
- Think outside the box. For example, scarves that you buy in different locations will be beautifully displayed in a frame or draped over a chair or sofa to add elegance to your decor.
Major Purchases - Whether you are decorating a new home or enhancing your present one, an idea to consider is to buy a major part of your room decor while on your travels. A German shrunk, a huge Mexican Aztec calendar, or furniture from North Carolina are among the ideas that you can consider for beautifying your home. In many cases, the objects can be shipped directly to your home so that you won't have the bother of carrying them on the remainder of your trip. If you are bringing something from a foreign country, you will have to declare it at Customs when you return to the United States.
