It is the dream of many flyers who have spent hours in the coach section of an airplane to fly in business class. This dream may feel like it's out of reach due to the high-priced fares, but there are some things you can do to get business class fares without being a frequent flyer. These are just some examples of things you can try.

Elite Airline Credit Cards

The majority of airlines will offer upgrades and perks to their loyal flyers. You don't need to travel all that frequently to obtain those perks either. There are many airline branded credit cards on the market today that you can apply for that can actually help you build miles to get upgrades to business class and perks from your chosen airline. In order for this to work, you must obtain a card that offers elite air miles in order to get the upgrades. Regular air miles cards do not offer upgrades to business or first class typically. The more you spend on the card, the more miles you will earn and the more perks and upgrades you can obtain.

You can also buy upgrades even if you haven't earned enough elite air miles to purchase a business class ticket. It is possible to upgrade a coach ticket to a business class ticket using your air miles.

Last Minute Upgrades

It is sometimes possible to get a last minute upgrade to business class at the airport. This doesn't mean you would be automatically bumped to business, but you could buy an upgraded ticket at a discount if there are seats available. Airplanes would rather sell these seats at a fraction of their normal cost right before departure than have the plane fly with a lot of empty seats.

Online Auction

Believe it or not, many airlines offer online auctions to sell off seats, including business class and first class tickets. You simply place a bid on the airline's website for a price you wish to pay and enter your credit card information. The airline will contact you within a day before takeoff if you have won the bid.

Fly On Weekends Or Holidays

One of the better ways to get bumped to business class is to fly when business travelers aren't. You just might be able to snag a business class ticket if you fly on a Saturday or Sunday, or during a major holiday like Christmas Day. This means business class cabins are more empty and you are more likely to get a seat at a good rate.
